Note: Dutch painter active in Flanders. He went to Bruges, where in 1543 he became a freeman of the Company of Painters. Married Anna Blondeel 1544 in Bruges. Known as both a cartographer and painter of portraits and religious scenes. He was formerly believed to be a separate person from Pieter Pourbus born 1543, based on flaws in documentation and the vastly different styles of Pieter as cartographer and Pieter as painter.
