Chochol, Josef (Czech architect and author, 1880-1956)
|
Note: Czech architect, urbanist, and theoretician studied at the Prague Technical University, then after 1910 at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts under Otto Wagner. In 1911 he helped found the Group of Plastic Artists. After his first projects, which showed the influence of Wagner, he began producing buildings and furniture in the Czech purist style, with attention to unadorned volumes and crystalline forms. In 1913 he worked on the Neklanova apartment building, which showed a cubist influence. In the 1920s he joined Devětsil, the Left Front, and the Architects' Club. His design for the Prague Liberated Theater (1926-1927) shows an affinity for Soviet constructivism. |
