Ertegun, Mica (Romanian-American interior designer and philanthropist, 1926-2023)
|
Note: Romania-born interior designer Ertegun and the socialite Chessy Rayner founded an interior design firm MAC II in 1967; the initials are for “Mica And Chessy.” Mica was married for 45 years to the founder of Atlantic Records Ahmet Ertegun. She was a noted philanthropist who gave away vast sums of money to a variety of causes, projects, and scholarships. Her 41 million dollar gift for humanities scholarships at the University of Oxford in 2012 was the largest of its kind in Oxford’s 900 year history. In 2017, in recognition of her services to philanthropy, education, and British-American cultural relations, Queen Elizabeth II made her an honorary commander of the Order of the British Empire. |
