Kneeling Eros Group (Greek vase painters, active ca. 375-350 BCE in Campania)

Note: Many of the vases produced by this group were found at Locri and may be of local manufacture, under the influence of the Revel Group. The painting style is, however, less refined and more hurried than others by the Revel Group. The terracotta used is typically a rich orange-red, much deeper in color than that of most Campanian vases, suggesting that they are to be kept apart. Stylistically the vases stand between the forerunners and the later Sicilian style. Most of the vases include a kneeling Eros, thus the group's name.

Additional Notes:
French ..... Groupe de peintres sur vase grec, actif entre 375 et 350 avant notre ère en Campanie. La plupart des vases produits par ce groupe furent découverts à Locres, en Calabre, et semblent avoir été de manufacture locale, sous l'influence du Groupe de Revel. Le style est cependant moins raffiné, plus hâtif. L'argile utilisée pour réaliser ces vases est assez différente de celle classiquement utilisée pour les vases campaniens : elle est ici d'un orange-rouge très riche en oxydes et donc très vif. Stylistiquement, le groupe est à placer dans la tradition sicilienne, à mi-chemin entre les pionniers et les derniers tenant de cette tradition picturale. La plupart des vases représentent un Eros à genoux, d'où le nom du groupe.
