Record Type: Person
Allio, Giovanni Battista, III (Italian stuccoist and sculptor, 1690-ca. 1753)

Note: Giovanni Battista trained in his father's workshop in Passau, where he worked from 1716 to 1720. From 1720 Giovanni Battista ran his own workshop, where his brother, Sebastiano Domenico, worked until 1733. Franz Joseph Ignaz Holzinger and Giovanni Martino Luraghi were also active in his workshop, which became the leading workshop of stuccoists in the Passau region. His projects include St. Nikola Abbey Church (1716-1717); the decoration of the nave (1720-1722) of the Benedictine monastery of Niederaltach, together with his brother and Holzinger; and an extensive decorative scheme (1732) at Schloss Schwarzenau in Lower Austria. Giovanni Battista's oeuvre also includes free-standing sculptures, stucco-lustro, and scagliola altars. He may have died in Scaria.
