Chŏng Sŏn (Korean painter, 1676-1759)
|
Note: Korean painter popularized a more naturalized and personal painting style in the late Chosŏn period. This was a reaction against the previous tendency in Korea toward an imitative style derived from the Chinese. He is known for his views of notable sites in Korea, painted from personal experience. Chŏng Sŏn was influential in the adoption of true-view landscape painting (chin'gyŏng sansuhwa), which emphasized native Korean locales as subject matter. |
