Note: Chinese dynasty and group of rulers, for which there is extensive archaeological evidence. The Shang dynasty controlled what is now Shandong and Hebei provinces in the north, through what is now Henan province in the west, with centers of activity in what is presently Anyang and Zhengzhou. Writing and agriculture systems were developed during the Shang dynasty, as was a 12-month calendar.
