Woolfe, John (Irish architect, 1673-1793)
|
Note: In the 1750s Woolfe was employed by the architect James Paine as his clerk. He later obtained a post in the Office of Works, perhaps through Paine's agency. John Woolfe was the father of John Woolfe, Junior (d. 1806), who also had architectural training and practiced at the Office of Works. Woolfe is the joint author with James Gandon of the fourth and fifth volumes of 'Vitruvius Britannicus' published in 1767 and 1771. |
