Kainosho, Tadaoto (Japanese painter, 1894-1978)
|
Note: Third son of a Kyoto family, he studied at the Kyoto City School of Arts and Crafts, then the Kyoto Municipal Special School of Painting, where he graduated in 1915. He is known for his studies of courtesans and female nudes. He worked from photographs and often posed as women for his own paintings. He was openly homosexual. From 1941 to 1956 he worked for the film director Mizoguchi as a historical costume and background advisor. |
