Mu'in (Persian illustrator and painter, active ca. 1635-1697)
|
Note: Mu'in's style was grounded in calligraphy and colorism although his pallet was less intense than that of his teacher Riza. He seems to have remained impervious to the eclecticism found in late 17th-century Persian painting. His body of manuscripts includes a number of copies of Firdawsi's Shāhnāma. In addition to his copiously illustrated manuscripts, nearly 60 single-figure paintings and ink drawings were signed by him; he also painted and varnished bookbindings. Works such as "A Lion Attacking a Youth" (1672) and "Portrait of Riza" (1635-1673) include highly personalized and informative inscriptions. He often drew in magenta. |
