Dupont, Pierre (French carpet maker, 1577-1640)
|
Note: Pierre Dupont's main employment was as tapestry maker to the court, but he also painted portraits and miniatures. He illuminated a book for Madame de Châteauneuf, the mistress of Henri III.. In 1608 Pierre Dupont (1577–1640) obtained a license to manufacture carpets in the Turkish manner in a workshop under the Galeries du Louvre in Paris; a second workshop was founded in a disused soap-works (savonnerie) near the Colline de Chaillot in Paris; later became the Savonnerie manufactory. |
