Dirce Painter (Greek vase painter, active ca. 400-370 BCE in southern Italy)
|
Note: An important vase painter, both in his own right as an artist who established many principles followed by later Sicilian vase painters and as the chief artist of the forerunners of Paestan and Campanian vase painting. It is from his work and that of his followers that the Asteas and Cassandra Painters derived many of the essential elements of their respective styles. Most of his extant vases have been found in Sicily. The artists of the Revel Group were noteworthy followers of the Dirce Painter. |

Important peintre sur vase, pour sa production, son influence sur la peinture sicilienne postérieure, ainsi qu'en tant que précurseur de la peinture Paestane et Campanienne. De son style s'inspirèrent le peintre Assteas et le Peintre de Cassandre pour établir les éléments principaux de leur style respectif. La plupart de ses vases ont été découverts en Sicile. Les peintres du groupe de Revel sont pour la plupart des disciples du peintre de Dirce. |
