Muhammad Sadiq (Persian painter, active ca. 1750-1800)
|
Note: Muhammad Sadiq was one of the most renowned painters in the court of Karim Khan (reigned 1750-1779) a Zand monarch. During his career Sadiq worked on oil paintings, miniatures, and varnished objects. Among his oil paintings there are two signed works that depict lovers drinking at a window and a prince on horseback who is attacked by a dragon. He also signed some of the mural at Karim Khan's mausoleum. After Karim Khan's death, Sadiq starts working for Agha Muhammad (reigned 1779-1797), the founder of the Qajar dynasty (1779-1924). During this time he repaired the mural in the Chihil Sutun Palace, which commemorated Nadir Shah's defeat of the Mughal armies in 1738. Sadij's work is characterized by attention to detail and and an intimate and poetic atmosphere; figures play a predominant role. His style was continued and refined by the miniature painter Najaf 'Ali Isfahani. |
