Accademia di San Luca (Italian academy, Rome, founded 1593)
|
Note: The Accademia di San Luca was founded in 1593 in Rome by the painter Federico Zuccari and Cardinal Federico Borromeo. It focused on instruction, which was different from most earlier "accademie." It was founded to replace the old artists' guild in Rome, in addition to training young artists. It dominated art in Rome from the later 17th century until its influence diminished in the 19th century. It continues in existence today. |
