Kappe, Ray (American architect and teacher, 1927-2019)
|
Note: Modernist architect was the founder of the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc) in Los Angeles, 1972. He studied architecture at the University of California at Berkeley, and worked in the office of Anshen and Allen in San Francisco, and the Los Angeles office of Carl Maston, where he worked on housing and apartment designs as well as commercial and institutional projects. Kappe established his own office by 1954, and had completed more that 70 projects by 1967. He was the founding chair of the architecture department of California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, which he left in 1972, along with a group of faculty and students to found SCI-Arc.
