Knip, Hendrik Johannes (Dutch painter, 1819-after 1897)
|
Note: Hendrik Johannes is primarily known for his semi-topographical landscape gouaches in tempera, with foreign, and particularly Brabant, elements. His work is considered extremely uneven; the quality and signatures of his work vary so much that one could wonder whether all of the work was really done by one artist. He probably made a few study trips to Switzerland and France. His work is scattered throughout the Netherlands, especially in private collections in Brabant. The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam has a number of his gouaches. Comment on works: fruit; bird; landscape |
