Frágner, Jaroslav (Czech architect, 1898-1967)
|
Note: One of the principal propenents of Czech functionalist architecture of the period 1920-1940. He studied at the Prague Technical University from 1917-1922, then at the Academy of Fine Arts, 1924. His first major project dates from 1923, a children's hospital in Mukačevo, Ukraine, which shows the influence of Russian constructivism. He is known as one of the Four Purists, along with Obrtel, Evžen, and Honzík, with whom he studied. He worked on unexecuted housing schemes, and his only realized project in Prague was the Merkur Insurance building. Between 1930 and 1941 he worked on the ESSO power station in Kolín. He was a member of the Mánes Union of Artists, the Union of Socialist Architects, and from 1949, the Stavoprojekt, a socialist design group. In the same year, he became professor at the Prague Academy of Fine Arts. He spent his last years restoring historic buildings. Czech architect. |
