Langlois, François (French printmaker, dealer, and publisher, 1588-1647)

Note: Langlois is considered by many to have been the first important print-publisher in France; as such, he played a major role in the dissemination of contemporary artists' works throughout western Europe. Artists he published include Pierre Brebiette, Francois Chauveau, Collignon, Jean Couvay, Jerome David, Louis Ferdinand, Antoine Garnier, and Charles Le Brun. He helped to form the collections of Thomas Howard, 14th Earl of Arundel, and Charles I of England. He was friends with artists such as Claude Vignon, Stefano della Bella, Francois Collignon, and Anthony van Dyck, who painted his portrait.
