Hermogenes of Alabanda (Greek architect, active late 3rd and early 2nd century BCE)
|
Note: Hermogenes is the most famous Hellenistic architectural theorist and had a large impact on Roman architectural practice as well as later architects of the Renaissance. His reputation is largely based on Vitruvius, who often cited him. His best-known projects were the Temple of Artemis at Magnesia and the Temple of Dionysos at Teos; Vitruvius tells us that Hermogenes considered the Doric order inappropriate for temples. |
