Sultan Muhammad (Persian illustrator and court artist, active ca. 1505-1550)
|
Note: SSultan Muhammad was a well-established painter in the court of Shah Tahmasp (reigned 1524-1576). Documents indicate that he took part in the production of a splendid copy of Fidawsi's Shāhnāma (Book of Kings, 1524-1529) as well as Hafiz's Dīvān (collected poems, 1531-1533). His unusual distribution of colors, distinctive composition, and usage of exotic influences result in some of the most unique Safavid manuscripts. |
