Mirza 'Ali (Persian illustrator, ca. 1510-1576)
|
Note: Mirza 'Ali worked in the library of the Safavid ruler Tahmasp I (reigned 1524-1576) and produced decorative and portrait paintings. Dickson and Welch suggest that during the 1530s and 1540s Mirza 'Ali reached the height of his career by undertaking important projects. Some of his important paintings are in Firdawsi's Shāhnāma (Book of kings), Nizami's Khamsa (Five Poems), and Jami's Silsilat al-Dhahab (Chain of gold). His spiritual style is defined by the focus on the landscape, realism, and logical composition. The Safavid chronicler Qazi Ahmad and the Ottoman historian Mustafa 'Ali made references to the artist in their historical records. |
