Polydoros of Rhodes (Greek sculptor, active ca. 10-20 CE)
|
Note: Polydoros emigrated from Rhodes to Italy with fellow sculptors Agesandros and Athanadoros at some time in the early Empire, where they produced the famous statue of Laokoon and some or all of the groups of sculptures discovered in Tiberius' Sperlonga grotto. Their Hellenistic, 'neo-baroque' work had a great impact on the style and presentation of Roman Imperial sculpture. |
