Rossellino, Bernardo (Italian sculptor and architect, 1409-1464)
|
Note: Known for his wall tombs and tabernacles in which the figurative elements are subordinate to the architectural element. An important example is his monument to the humanist, historian, and Chancellor of Florence, Leonardo Bruni (1444-1447), in which the sarcophagus and the effigy are contained within a classical triumphal arch. This format of funerary monument was adopted by other Tuscan sculptors. |
