Ward, Henrietta Mary Ada (English painter, 1832-1924)

Note: She was the wife of E. M. Ward and the daughter of George Raphael Ward and the miniaturist Mary Webb. She received instruction in drawing and painting at home, supplemented by attendance at Henry Sass's drawing school. Ward was best-known for her paintings of historical genre scenes. She was proposed for election to the Royal Academy despite the official ineligibility of women and she founded an art school for women.
