Niccolò di ser Sozzo Tegliacci (Sienese painter and illuminator, active ca. 1334, died 1363)

Note: Niccolò painted illuminations and panel paintings. His style is characterized by minute decorative details, fluid forms, and subtle chromatic effects. What little is known about his life derives from documents that record in 1348 he was in debt to the city of Siena, and in 1363 he was listed in Siena's Libro delle Arti (Book of the Arts). It is now generally accepted that he is not a "Tegliacci," as many scholars had believed since 1713 when antiquarian Girolamo Bichi associated the artist with the Tegliacci family.
