Held, John, Jr. (American painter and illustrator, 1889-1958)
|
Note: Held was one of the illustrators for "The New Yorker" magazine during the 1920s, known for his comic and idiosyncratic representations of the Flapper generation. Unwisely investing in a swindle, the Stock Market Crash of 1929 left him penniless, and in 1931 he suffered a nervous breakdown. In 1939, he had a successful exhibition of bronze equestrian statutes. |
