L., Nicola (French-Moroccan sculptor, designer, and performance artist, ca.1935-2018)
|
Note: A French Pop artist known for sculptures of the human form as furniture that functioned as feminist critiques of culture. Born in Morocco, she studied art at the Académie Julian in Paris, followed by the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris at the atelier of painter Jean Souverbie. Her birth date is around 1935, but is variously stated by her. She was known for most of her career simply as Nicola, but added the L. later in life. She moved to New York in 1979, settling at the Chelsea Hotel. She made films, including a short documentary on the Bad Brains, and another about Abbie Hoffman, among others. |
