Note: One of many children of Giacomo di Benincasa, a dyer and Lapa, the daughter of a local poet; the family belonged to the lower middle class of tradesmen and petty notaries. Catherine became a tertiary of the Domenican order, ascetic; known for having dictated 380 letters, 26 prayers, and the 4 treatises in "Il libro della divina dottrina," ca.1375. Active in promoting the Crusade and reoganization of the papacy. |
