Constantius I, Emperor of Rome (Roman emperor, ca. 250-306 CE)
|
Note: Son of Eutropius and Claudia; father of Constantine the Great and founder of the Constantinian dynasty. As a member of a four-man ruling body (tetrarchy) created by the emperor Diocletian, Constantius held the title caesar 293-305 and caesar augustus in 305-306. His death sparked the collapse of the tetrarchic system of government inaugurated by the Emperor Diocletian. |
