Gong, Prince (Chinese prince, 1833-1898)
|
Note: Chinese prince and foreign affairs official; sixth son of the Daoguang Emperor and a half brother of Daoguang's successor, the Xianfeng emperor. Prince Gong became a coregent for the successor, the young Tongzhi emperor in 1861. Under Prince Gong’s direction, the great Taiping Rebellion, which had occupied most of South China for more than a decade, was finally suppressed. |
