Vespucci family (Italian family, flourished from 15th century )
|
Note: Ancient noble Florentine family, famed for member, the explorer Amerigo Vespucci. They were powerful merchants, allies of the Medici, and patrons of the arts, including the major artists Sandro Botticelli and Domenico Ghirlandaio. The family palazzo was in Borgo Ognissanti, today the historic seat of the Ospedale di San Giovanni di Dio, founded by Simone di Piero Vespucci 1382-1388. Another important family palazzo, today called Palazzo Incontri, is in via de' Servi, formerly filled with an important art collection that is now dispersed. |
