Munjong, King of Joseon, Korea (Korean king, calligrapher, 1414-1452)
|
Note: King Munjong, the fifth ruler of the Joseon Dynasty, was also known as a calligrapher and painter. He was well versed in regular, cursive, and clerical scripts. He emulated the Songxue style of Zhao Mengfu (1254-1322), and his calligraphic skill matched that of Wang Xizhi. King Munjong also excelled at painting. He bestowed a painting of plum blossoms in snow and a poem with heptasyllabic regulated verses upon Yi Yong (Grand Prince Anpyeong, 1418-1453). |
