Record Type: Person
Tomita Keisen (Japanese painter, 1879-1936)

Note: Fifth son of a family from Hakata (now Fukuoka). His early studies followed the Kanō style, but he tired of this, moved to Kyoto and began following the Shijō style of Tsuji Kakō. He began painting historical themes, but later, under the influence of Sengai, began painting in the Zen style of 'no style.' He died at the height of his popularity from a cerebral hemorrhage probably induced by alcoholism.
