Vivancos, Miguel García (Spanish painter, 1895-1972, active in France)

Note: Spanish painter, active from 1936 active in France. At the age of thirteen, Miguel García Vivancos was an apprentice mechanic at the Arsenal in Cartagena. He later moved to Barcelona where he worked as a watchmaker, a docker and a housepainter. During the Spanish Civil War he enlisted on the Republican side. He crossed to France in 1939 and was active in the French Resistance during World War II, and became a painter. Picasso encouraged him in his work. Comment on works: painter |
