Coonley, Jacob F. (American photographer, active second half of 19th century)
|
Note: Jacob F. Coonley was introduced to photography by George Barnard in 1856-1857 and specialized in topographic and documentary (Civil War) photographs. Coonley began working for the [Edward and Henry] Anthony firm in 1858. When the firm was contracted in mid-1864 to send photographers to the eastern and western theatres of the Civil War, Coonley was selected for the latter assignment. He traveled along the railroad lines connecting Louisville, Nashville, Chattanooga, Knoxville and Atlanta. Coonley was also active in Cuba and in Nassau, Bahamas, where he had a studio, and his photographs are dated ca. 1860s-1890s. |
