Herrad von Landsberg (German abbess and illuminator, died 1195)
|
Note: The abbess at the convent of Ste Odile in Hohenbourg, Herrad von Landsberg is known for writing the Hortus Deliciarum, a pictorial encyclopedia for women in her convent. The work was accompanied by hundreds of miniatures, assumed to be illustrated by von Landsberg herself, though this has not been proven. The original copy was destroyed by fire in 1870. |
