Williams, E. Stewart (American architect, 1909-2005)

Note: Modernist architect was active in Palm Springs, California, and helped define what is known as the Desert Modern Style of the mid-20th century. He graduated from Cornell University, and received a Master's degree in Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania. His first work as a professional was for the 1939 New York World's Fair and the Lord & Taylor store in Manhasset, on Long Island, both done while working in the office of Raymond Loewy. Mature projects include a 1947 house for Frank Sinatra, and many public buildings in Palm Springs, including Temple Isaiah (ca. 1949), the mountain station for the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, and the Palm Springs Desert Museum (ca. 1975).
