Courrèges, André (French fashion designer, 1925-2016)
|
Note: French fashion designer who became known for his "space age' clothing in the 1960s. In 1941, he went to Paris and worked with Balenciaga and opened his own house there in 1961. His early 1960s work included mini skirts, trouser suits, close fitting knitted catsuits with welt seams around the armholes and over the ribs, and cut-out or see-through dresses. His later work became increasing more futuristic with an emphasis on function. His designs were widely copied throughout the 1960s. In 1965, he sold his business to L'Oreal. |
