Topley, William James (Canadian photographer, 1845-1930)
|
Note: Topley began as an apprentice in William Notman's studio in Montréal, Québec in 1864. He worked as a tintypist in the Montréal studio and then moved to Ottawa, Ontario, where he opened a branch of Notman studios in 1868. Topley acted as branch manager of the Ottawa studio until 1872 at which time Notman sold him the studio. He operated it under Notman's name until 1875, when he moved and ran the studio under his own name until 1918. Topley's Ottawa studio produced portraits as well as stereographs of the Parliament buildings and other Ottawa landmarks. |
