Barjola, Juan (Spanish painter, born 1919)
|
Note: Barjola studied in Madrid from 1940 at the Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando and began exhibiting in 1957. Moved to Paris in 1960 on a grant from the Fundación Juan March. Concerned with humanist issues, his work is figurative and expressionistic, with a surrealist influence. A foundation was established in his name in 1984, and in 1988 a collection of his works was opened in the Palacio de la Trinidad in Gijón, Asturias. |
