Note: Born 14 September 1852; died 24 February 1920. Born from American parents Dr. John Hull Olmsted and Mary Cleveland Bryant (Perkins) Olmsted (after the death of John Hull Olmsted, John Charles's mother married her husband's brother Frederick Law Olmsted). American landscape architect, Brookline, Mass.; the nephew and adopted son of Frederick Law Olmsted, he may have been the first formally trained scientific practitioner of landscape architecture; in pracrtce with F.L. Olmsted from 1875; after his step-father's retirement in 1895 he took over the practice until 1898 when F.L. Olmsted, Jr. was admitted to partnership under the name of Olmsted Brothers. |
