Note: The German city of Unna is located east of Dortmund in the Arnsberg district of North Rhine-Westphalia. It was an important medieval town, but declined during the Thirty Years' War in the 17th century. It prospered again in the 18th century when the city acquired an early steam pump engine to power industry. The modern city is a coal-mining center, and also produces wire and machinery. The 2004 estimated population was 70,900.
