Note: This is a federally-recognized reservation stewarded by the Chelan, Chief Joseph Band of Nez Perce, Colville, Entiat, Lakes, Methow, Moses-Columbia, Nespelem, Okanogan, Palus, San Poil, and Wenatchi peoples comprising the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation. The reservation spans 1.4 million acres in Okanogan, Chelan, and Ferry Counties, northeastern Washington State; it is borded by the Columbia and Okanogan Rivers on its east, south, and west sides. The reservation was first established by an Executive Order on April 9, 1872, but was relocated from its original location on the east side of the Columbia River to a tract on the west side of the river soon after. The Columbia, Chelan, Entiat, and Wenatchi tribes relocated to the Colville Reservation in 1884 after their previous home, the Moses Columbia Reservation, was returned to public domain. An act of Congress in 1892 drastically reduced the original reservation's acreage. |
