Note: Aianí lies 23 km from Kozani. Excavations indicate the existence of an organized city from the second millenium BCE to 100 BCE, when it was abandoned, probably after an earthquake. This evidence supports the theory that organized cities flourished in Macedonia before the region was unified by Philip II. An archaeological museum here houses noteworthy finds from the area.
