Note: Although several mounds in the area have revealed signs of ancient civilization, the mound at Tell Uhaimir is believed to be the location of the actual city-state of Kish. According to legend, Kish was the leading city after the great flood; was a prosperous Sumerian city by 4th millenium BCE; contains ruins of palace of Sargon I (ca. 2600 BCE) and temple of Nebuchadnezzar II (7th cen. BCE). |
