Note: Sinhalese kingdom that flourished in the 15th century. With the arrival of the Portuguese in the early 16th century, Kōṭṭe became the first Sinhalese kingdom to pay tribute to a European sovereign. Rule officially passed to the king of Portugal by the end of the century.
