Note: Pre-Columbian Mayan site near Itzan, located in the lower Pasión River area. It formed a polity in the Late Classic Period (AD 600 to 830), and was involved in the war between Tikal and Calakmul, until the region finally collapsed around 830, being one of first of the Classic sites in this area to be abandoned. It is best known as the site of the "Group of the Hieroglyphic Stairway." Contains hieroglyphic inscriptions.
