Note: Middle Preclassic occupation of this site dates between ca. 1000 and 400 BCE. Located near El Mirador, Nakbe was surveyed in 1962. Nakbe's connected causeways between smaller outlying groups and to El Mirador indicate the Mayan rulers' ability to control territory within their realms. Nakbe also contains some of the earliest masonry architecture in the Maya lowlands. Contains hieroglyphic inscriptions.
