Note: Largest kingdom of the Lunda, established with the help of the Portuguese. Under Kazembe II (1740-60), it conquered most of the territory it would occupy, including parts of the Congo and northern Zambia. In the first half of the 19th century the kingdom became an important trading site between the central African interior and the east coast. By the second half of the century, Kazembe was colonized by the British.
