Note: Historic region that was part of the Aghlabid state from ca. 800 CE. Previously, the name 'Ifriqiya' (an Arabic version of the word "Africa") was also used to describe the North African province of the Roman Empire, as well as a "wilaya" (province) of Egypt from ca. 704.
